Redhawks defeat Warriors in three overtime thriller

The Monroe Redhawks moved to 4-0 on the season after a dramatic three-overtime win against Weddington, 45-38.

Weddington jumped out to a 17-o halftime lead, but the Redhawks stormed back in the second half on the arm of Zephaniah Wall. Wall hit Jadarious McManus on two long touchdown bombs that pulled Monroe back into the game.

A field goal by Monroe’s Brayan Diaz in the with less than a minute to play in regulation tied the game at 24, forcing the game to overtime.

Both teams scored in the first two overtimes and Monroe’s defensive back, Desmen Robinson, clinched the victory with an interception in the end zone.
