It’s Piedmont, in a runaway

Piedmont recovered a Central Academy fumble on the first play from scrimmage and never looked back.

Josh Collura, Piedmont’s senior running back, opened the scoring early in the 1st quarter, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead.  As the first quarter came to a close, Piedmont had a commanding 35-0 lead, thanks to multiple Central Academy miscues that resulted in Piedmont touchdowns.

Piedmont defeated Central Academy, 58-0. It was Piedmont’s second consecutive win on the season after dropping their first three games. The shutout was Piedmont ‘s first of the season and first shutout since blanking Central Academy last season, 35-0. Over the last two season, the Panthers have outscored the Cougars, 93-0.

Collura finished the night with two touchdowns on 53 yards rushing. Piedmont’s leading rusher of the game was junior, Matt Price, who carried the ball eight times for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Price, the team leader in rushing yards for the season also ranks among the best backs in the county.

Piedmont (2-3) will host West Stanly (4-1) next Friday. Central Academy (1-5) will have a bye week before heading into conference play on the road to face Monroe on October 7.
