On Friday night in Greensboro, the Porter Ridge Pirates fell to Grimsley High School 22-17 in the NCHSAA 4A West Quarterfinals.
In the fifteen years of Porter Ridge football, the program has built a legacy of success. In defeat against Grimsley, the '19 Pirates have added a chapter to that great tradition showing resolve on the road in a playoff game.
Trailing by sixteen at halftime to the #1 ranked team in their section, Porter Ridge did not fold. Instead, they fought back, shutting down Grimsley while putting themselves in a position to win the game on their last offensive drive with under two minutes to play.
Unfortunately, a Pirate turnover on Grimsley's 37-yard line with 35 seconds to play ended a dramatic comeback. Still, the result does little to erase the effort and passion Porter Ridge players displayed on the football field two nights ago in Greensboro.
As Head Coach Michael Hertz stated to the team in his postgame speech (included in the video below), "How you played in that second half is something I am always going to remember."
