On March 14, everything changed for students across North Carolina. Schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, the lives of student-athletes put on hold.
Nine days later, another announcement from the state that school- closing would extend until May 14.
Despite the negative news, our student-athletes are finding ways to work on their craft while maintaining respect for the virus responsible for this shutdown.
Tonight, my conversation with Porter Ridge High School's rising junior kicker, Braeden McAlister.
Braeden was the starting kicker for the Pirates in his sophomore season, kicking 39-of-43 PATs (points after touchdown) and scoring on five-of-six field goal attempts. McAlister finished as the Pirates' second-leading scorer last season with 54 points.
