On March 14, everything changed for students across North Carolina. Schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, the lives of student-athletes put on hold.
Nine days later, another announcement from the state that school- closing would extend until May 14.
Despite the negative news, our student-athletes are finding ways to work on their craft while maintaining respect for the virus responsible for this shutdown.
As we navigate through this long month, I'll profile some of those athletes that are being resourceful and optimistic despite all the obstacles.
Tonight, my interview with Piedmont High School's underrated rising senior defensive lineman, Ty Nicholas.
In 2019, Nicholas finished tied for third in the county with 8.5 sacks. In only 8.5 games played because of injury, Nicholas collected 77 total tackles, with 26.5 of them coming for a loss. Earlier this month, Nicholas received his first offer from Columbia University.
Below, my conversation with the Panther lineman.
Big thanks to Jamey Ward for all the fantastic photos he took of Ty that were used in the production of this video interview. Check out his full collection at https://www.jameyward.com/
