Porter Ridge suffered their first loss of the season at home on Friday night against Hickory Ridge, 37-14.

The Pirates also suffered the loss of two key players in the first quarter, sophomore quarterback Jared Lockhart and their top running back junior Danny Kennedy. While I think the score would have been closer with those two players healthy and active, I'm not so sure the end result would be any different.

Hickory Ridge junior quarterback Caden Haywood seemed in control from the start and finished with an impressive night connecting on 18 of his 29 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for one TD.

Meanwhile, the Porter Ridge offense impacted by injury were held to 66 yards of offense.  Defensively, Porter Ridge did a great job in the second half playing hard on every snap and limiting Hickory Ridge to only one field goal in the final two quarters.

Porter Ridge will have a timely bye week to heal up and prepare for another big test when they face last year's 4A State Champion Cardinal Gibbons at home on September 16. (Game Highlights below.)
