With Forest Hills leading 9-7 late in the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets' defense made their presence known as they did all night by scoring on a fumble recovery for a touchdown that would become the game-winning score.

Forest Hills junior linebacker Jaquavion Smith delivered the hit on the Latin QB that dislodged the ball, and Caiden Smith came in, scooped up the fumble and dashed 42 yards to the end zone.

It was fitting the game winning touchdown was scored by the defense. It was the Yellow Jacket defense that stamped their personality on the game midway through the first quarter.

Latin was not able to produce any sustained offensive drives in the game. The Forest Hills defensive speed cut down outside runs and screen passes, their size and speed smothered inside efforts and pressured the quarterback all night. It was an impressive evening made more eye-opening when a 2A school like Forest Hills can dominate a large Charlotte private school like Latin.

Junior Caiden Smith led the Jackets with 11 total tackles and the fumble recovery touchdown. Senior Ephraim Deese registered nine total tackles and one sack. Senior Christyan Washington opened the scoring for the Jackets with a punt return TD and long kickoff return and on defense had nine total tackles along with the game sealing interception. Junior Dakota Potter had a big 89 yard interception late in the game. (Game video below.)
