On Friday night, Monroe collected their fifth win of the season with a 55-14 defeat of Sun Valley. The 5-0 start is the best start for Monroe since their 2A undefeated, 16-0 state title season of 2015.
Monroe played solid on both sides of the ball through the first five weeks, and Friday night was yet another example. The Hawks recorded six offensive touchdowns and two defensive TDs.
Sophomore Jordan Young had a big night catching five passes for 152 yards and one touchdown and scoring on an 87-yard pick-six on defense. Junior Zach Melton added two receiving touchdowns along with fellow junior running back Nate Crosby, who rushed for two TDs.
Monroe has a tough week ahead as they prepare for 4A Porter Ridge, a good test and barometer for where this Redhawks team stands at the moment before heading into conference play. (Game highlights below)
