Monroe defeated Weddington, 44-32, on Saturday afternoon at Monroe High School to win the 8th Grade middle school championship.

It was a barn burner of a middle school 8th-grade title game. Fans of wide-open, high-scoring football played by young, talented student-athletes could not ask for anything more. 

Monroe took a 24-8 lead into halftime, but if you know anything about Weddington football, they just don't quit. Late in the third quarter, the Wildcats tied the game up at 24.

The Weddington comeback was more than enough to wake up the young Redhawks. So many young teams crumble after losing big leads, but not these Hawks. Monroe fought back, outscoring Weddington the rest of the way, 20-8, to secure the championship.
